Sterilite's ability to block out UV up to 380nms, reduces diseases like Botrytis
and Mildew that need a certain level of UV to be able to reproduce, hence by blocking
the UV to this level, you can keep diseases under control without using
chemicals with no adverse effect on the growth of the plants.
Recent trials at Wellesbourne have shown that using Sterilite Premium
Polythene reduced the incidence of mildew from 90.9% down to 43.7%. Flying
insects also see in UV light, but because they can't see they don't
fly. Trials in XL's own nurseries show that introduced aphids will
form small colonies, but not spread through the house. |

The benefit to you is that this all helps to reduce
fungal diseases and aphid attacks, which reduces the need for
harmful chemicals, and the labour costs of applying them.

Please Note - Sterilite
Premium Super Thermic Polythene will not totally eradicate all diseases and insect
pests. However as part of an integrated pest management growing system
it will make a significant reduction in pest and disease.
