XL Horticulture's Smart Blue Polythene was the first commercially available polytunnel tunnel cover to have the ability to dwarf plants without using growth regulants.

Originally designed for bedding plants. We know that the spectrum of Smart Blue Polythene increases the amount of basal shoots and increases leaf colour in all subjects. The greatest effect is on Pansies where the plants are reduced in height by about 50% compared to clear polythene film. The plants come into flower approximately 2 weeks later than under clear polythene film. However, in all bedding plants there is a prolonged shelf life between the plants being ready for sale and the time when they are considered too poor to sell. With clear polythene covers the shelf life is around 7-10 days. With Smart Blue Polythene Film, the shelf life is between 30-40 days. Smart Blue Polythene, has subsequently been used for many other crops.

• UV Open - The UV Open characteristics of this film gives natural UV levels.

• NR/FR MANIPULATION - Smart Blue Polythene reduces the near red but the far red also stays low. the benefit is that you can grow better plants by using their natural growth triggers.

• Thermically Efficient - A special filter is used to create thermically efficient polythene films. This allows in the wavelength that is transmitted by the sun but, retains the wavelength that is transmitted by stored energy. This will reduce heating bills by about 20% and give as much as a 4 degree frost protection without any heat.

• Anti Fog / Anti Drip - Smart Blue Polythene has an Anti Fog / Anti Drip agent which breaks down the surface tension of the condensation droplets so that they run down the sheet, reducing drips and subsequently retaining light clarity.

• Strong - Smart Blue Polythen contains a special metallocene additive, which adds tremendous strength to the film.

• Thickness - 600g / 150mu film.
